1. Minimum Age

You can start learning how to drive from the age of 16. However, you are not allowed to sit your first Car Driving Test until you are 17.

2. Proof of Identity

You must bring the required documents to sit the Computerized Theory Test. Click here to check what documents you must bring.

3. Learner’s Permit (CTT)

To be able to learn how to drive a car, you will need to pass 24/30 multiple-choice question theory test. It is a good idea to practice before taking the test. Click here to do your practice at the DoT website. This is a walk-in service so you don’t have to book. It is recommended to come before 3pm.

Once you have passed the Computerized Theory Test, you will need to do an eyesight test. A medical test is required only if you have declared any medical condition on the application form.

After passing these requirements, you will pay an application fee which includes one practical driving assessment.

You will get a temporary paper Learner’s Permit which allows you to start learning how to drive. You must carry that with you whenever you drive.

4. Logbook/Learn&Log App

If you are under the age of 25, you will need to log a minimum of 50 hours of driving including a minimum of 5-night driving hours.

-The logbook can be purchased at the Department of Transport anytime. Once you have completed your driving hours, your driving instructor/parents/supervisor and you must complete the declaration page at the back of the logbook and bring it to your first Driving Test. Please remember you need to be at least 17 years of age to sit your first Driving Test.

-Learn&Log App is free. However, you must set it up and record the hours while you drive. Once hours are enough, the app will automatically prompt you to get your driving instructor/parents/supervisor to sign the declaration. You must do this at least 24 working hours before your Driving Test. The hours are logged online so you don’t have to worry about bringing your logbook to your first Driving Test and again you need to be 17 years old.

-At Auslicence, we have got professional instructors who can help you to build safe driving techniques and to meet WA driving standards to pass the driving test. Once you are safe enough, you can drive more with your family members.

5. Hazard Perception Test (HPT)

You need to be at least 16 and a half years of age and have allowed 6 months to lapse since obtaining your Learner’s Permit to sit the HPT. The HPT is made up of a number of traffic scenarios and learners are required to respond by clicking or not clicking the left mouse button to the ‘ACT” button on the screen. Click here to practice online at the DoT website Once you have passed the HPT, you can go for your Practical Driving Assessment (PDA) when you are 17 years old.
